Elections and Voter Registration
The City Clerk is the official record keeper for the City of Newaygo. The Clerk also has the duties of facilitating official meetings and board and commission appointments, and assists the public in accessing public documents and information. The Clerk administers elections and voter registration in accordance with State and Federal Law.
Frequently Asked Questions
Newaygo City Office will be open on Saturday, October 31, 2020 from 7:30 am-3:30 pm if you desire to vote an absentee ballot for the November 3rd General Election. Please go to the front office window at City Hall and press the white button for assistance.
You may also vote an absentee ballot during City Hall regular business hours up until Monday, November 2, 2020 until 4:00 PM. Please go to the front office window at City Hall for assistance.
The polls at City Hall will be open on November 3, 2020 from 7:00 am-8:00 pm
Military and Overseas Civilian Voters
There are certain special services provided for voters who are active duty military and/or overseas. The following information will be of help to military and overseas voters who wish to participate in various elections.
How to Register to vote: Go to the Federal Voting Assistance Program website, download and complete a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA). The FPCA can also be used to obtain an absent voter ballot by e-mail, fax or regular mail.
How to obtain an absent voter ballot by email, fax, or regular mail: Go to the Federal Voting Assistance Program website, download and complete a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA). Check the appropriate box for e-mail, fax or mail. The FPCA can also be used to register to vote.
How to take advantage of discounted mailing costs for overseas voters: Go to the Overseas Vote Foundation website. Click on "Express Your Vote" and follow instructions.
Register to Vote
To qualify to be a registered voter in the State of Michigan you must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years of age by Election Day and a resident of the community for 30 days prior to the election. You may register to vote by utilizing the Voter Registration Form and submitting it to the City Clerk, 28 State Rd, Newaygo, MI 49337, or you may register in person at any Secretary of State office.
The last day to register in any manner other than in-person with the local clerk for the November 3, 2020 General Election is Monday, October 19, 2020. In person registration with the local clerk is October 20-November 3, 2020 providing proof of residency.
Voters who request to be placed on our Permanent Absentee Voter List will automatically receive an absent voter application prior to each election. The voter must fill out the application and return it to the clerk's office to receive a ballot for the election. In order to be placed on this list, you may call the City Clerk's Office at (231) 652-1657 Ext. 213, stop at City Hall, e-mail a request to: email@example.com or go online to the Michigan Voter Information Center. Please be sure to include your name, address and date of birth.
